Modelling Time Series Extremes
نویسنده
چکیده
• The need to model rare events of univariate time series has led to many recent advances in theory and methods. In this paper, we review telegraphically the literature on extremes of dependent time series and list some remaining challenges. Key-Words: • Bayesian statistics; Box–Cox transformation; clustering; dependence; extremal index; extremogram; generalized extreme-value distribution; generalized Pareto distribution; Hill estimator; nonparametric smoothing; non-stationarity; regression; tail index. L-moments based assessment of a mixture model for frequency analysis of rainfall extremes
In the framework of the regional analysis of hydrological extreme events, a probabilistic mixture model, given by a convex combination of two Gumbel distributions, is proposed for rainfall extremes modelling. The papers concerns with statistical methodology for parameter estimation. With this aim, theoretical expressions of the L-moments of the mixture model are here defined. The expressions ha...
متن کاملa Comparison Study Between the Joint Probability Approach and Time Series Rainfall Modelling in Coastal Detention Pond Analysis (RESEARCH NOTE)
In tidally affected coastal catchments detention pond should be provided to store flood surface water. A comparison between the full simulation approach based on the joint probability method and time series rainfall modeling via the annual maximum of pond level was undertaken to investigate the assumptions of independence between variables that are necessary in the joint probability method. The...
متن کاملTREND-CYCLE ESTIMATION USING FUZZY TRANSFORM OF HIGHER DEGREE
In this paper, we provide theoretical justification for the application of higher degree fuzzy transform in time series analysis. Under the assumption that a time series can be additively decomposed into a trend-cycle, a seasonal component and a random noise, we demonstrate that the higher degree fuzzy transform technique can be used for the estimation of the trend-cycle, which is one of the ba...

Global changes in extremes of the climatic variables that have been observed in recent decades can only be accounted anthropogenic, as well as natural changes. Factors are considered, and under enhanced greenhouse gas forcing the frequency of some of these extreme events is likely to change (IPCC, 2007 Alexander et al., 2007). Folland et al. (2001) showed that in some regions both temperature a...
متن کاملStochastic Models of Climate Extremes: Theory and Observations
One very important topic in climatology, meteorology, and related fields is the detailed understanding of extremes in a changing climate. There is broad consensus that the most hazardous effects of climate change are due to a potential increase (in frequency and/or intensity) of extreme weather and climate events. Extreme events are by definition rare, but they can have a significant impact on ...
